ASB is located on Australia's East Coast, midway between Sydney and Brisbane, approximately 310 nautical miles north of Sydney, 200 nautical miles south of Brisbane

Access is via the Port of Yamba, at the mouth of the Clarence River, protected north and south by breakwaters.

Yamba is a First Port of Entry. The port limits are one nautical mile seaward of the ends of the breakwaters.

ASB's construction facility is a short sail up river to Harwood Island.
